How to make your own great-tasting cinnamon rolls, using fail-proof methods for perfect results.

Cinnamon buns are so tempting to the taste buds. What could be better than tender bun spirals coated with rich cinnamon syrup? Best of all, cinnamon rolls are not difficult to make. Read on for tips for making great-tasting sticky buns.

Cinnamon Roll Recipe

Step 1:

In a measuring cup combine:

  • 1/2 cup of warm water
  • 1 tsp. sugar
  • 1 tbsp. yeast

Stir. Let sit until foamy, 5-10 minutes.

Step 2:

Into a large bowl stir together:

  • 1/4 cup oil
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • Add:
  • 1 1/2 cups of warm water
  • 1 1/2 cups milk

Step 3:

  • Add in yeast mixture and stir.

Step 4:

  • Add in 10 cups of flour

Method:

Add flour by the cupfuls and stir with a wooden spoon until mixture becomes stiff. Dust dough with more flour and work with your hands, kneading and adding flour each time dough becomes sticky. Continue to knead until dough becomes smooth. Start folding dough over into the center, kneading and folding until dough develops an elastic feel. Turn dough over and brush a little oil on top. Cover bowl with a tea towel. Set it in a warm place to rise. When dough has doubled in size, punch down and let dough rise a second time. Punch down again.

Step 5:

  1. Roll dough out on a floured counter into a large rectangle, to a 1" thickness.
  2. Spread soft margarine or butter over the bun dough, leaving a 1-2" border around the edge.
  3. Sprinkle on light brown sugar until margarine is coated. The amount of brown sugar you use determines the sweetness of your cinnamon rolls.
  4. Sprinkle cinnamon evenly over the brown sugar.
  5. Add a light dusting of ground cloves.

Shaping Your Cinnamon Rolls

  1. Starting on one long side, roll the dough into a long log.
  2. Dust a sharp knife with flour and cut 1" wide spirals.
  3. Place cinnamon buns into 9" X 12" greased cake pans.
  4. Continue cutting rounds until you reach the end of the log.
  5. Dot tops of sticky buns with more margarine and push any excess brown sugar into the inside of the bun spirals.

Cinnamon Roll Recipe Tips

  • Always use soft margarine or butter for your sticky buns over hard margarine. Using hard margarine may result in hard, sugary areas instead of soft syrup.
  • The amount of margarine you use determines the amount of syrup.
  • Adjust flour amounts, depending on whether you prefer dryer or moister cinnamon buns.

Cooking Instructions for Cinnamon Rolls

Bake cinnamon rolls in a preheated oven at 325 degrees until lightly browned. Cinnamon buns should bake for 20-30 minutes or longer depending on their size. When buns are done, remove pans from oven and tip cinnamon rolls onto a flat surface. Scrap off any excess syrup onto the top of your sticky buns.

Serve cinnamon rollss while still warm or serve them cold. Cinnamon Buns can be frozen and defrosted as needed.

Homemade cinnamon rolls are a treat at any time of the year. They make a good, packable picnic item, are wonderful tucked into lunches, and are a welcome addition at potlucks.
