  5. Add the chocolate chips to the pumpkin bread batter.
  6. Pour the chocolate chip pumpkin bread batter into the loaf pan(s).
  7. Place in the oven and bake for one hour or until toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Healthy Pumpkin Bread Ingredient Substitutions

To make this chocolate chip pumpkin bread recipe even healthier, try the following substitutions before baking the autumn bread recipe:

  1. Use canola oil instead of vegetable oil.
  2. Use 2% or skim milk instead of whole milk.
  3. Use raisins and/or walnuts instead of chocolate chips.

Other Autumn Sweet Bread Recipe Ideas

The base of this pumpkin bread recipe can be used to create other kinds of sweet bread. Try substituting the cup of pumpkin puree with a cup of mashed overripe bananas (2 or 3), and replace the pumpkin pie spice with vanilla extract for moist and delicious banana bread.

Also, for wonderful applesauce bread, replace the pumpkin puree with a cup of applesauce and add 1 teaspoon of cinnamon in place of the pumpkin pie spice.

Pumpkin and chocolate are a heavenly combination, and chocolate chip pumpkin bread will delight family and friends. The sweet loaves can be given as holiday gifts to relatives, placed in a Thanksgiving Day gift basket, or served to kids for a healthy afternoon snack. Served warm, the chocolate chips simply melt in the mouth and add a rich flavor to the bread, but at room temperature the pumpkin bread recipe is just as satisfying!
